WINDWARD AND LEEWARD
  Deed of Gift

W. Tyson Dominy, Sr. agrees to donate to the South Bay Scooter Club a trophy to be know as the “Windward and Leeward Trophy” and to be raced for under the following rules and regulations:

1. Must be raced for on Bellport Bay only.

2. A race will consist of 3 laps around a windward and leeward 2-sided course, each leg of course to be no less than one full mile in length and a total of 6 miles per race.

3. The “starting line” shall be placed at the windward end of the course and the first leg of the race shall be dead to leeward.

4. A time limit of 45 minutes shall be set on each race.

5. Ice scooters and shingles only propelled by wind and controlled or guided by a jib of any size are eligible.

6. All regular racing rules are to apply except those necessary for the sailing of this particular race as stated in this “Deed of Gift.”

7. The “Start” of this race is to be of a flying or moving start nature and will be carried out in approximately the following manner:

When the Race Committee and a majority of the contending skippers agree that ice and wind conditions are favorable a 2 hour notice will be given to all skippers of boats planning to compete.
All yachts will assemble at an assembly point approximately 1/4 mile to windward of the “Starting Line”. Starting line will be set by the “Starter” in such a manner as to be fair to all starting boats. At a signal by the Starter or Yacht Skippers all boats will proceed under their own power and with crews aboard to approach the starting line, at which time, if in the sole judgment of the “Starter” a majority of the boats are grouped so as to provide a fair and equal start for all concerned he will fire 1 gun starting the race as the boats cross the Starting Line.
If for any reason, the Starter does not wish the boats to start, he will fire 2 or more guns, not more than 1 second apart, and boats will proceed to re-assemble at the assembly point to try again for a start.

8. The “Starter” will have the sole right and power to suspend from racing in that race any yacht and skipper that does not comply with these Starting Rules to the best of their ability.

9. Any boat winning 3 races for this Trophy will be deemed permanent winner of the trophy at which time the South Bay Scooter Club will agree to re-dedicate a suitable and similar trophy for this race.

Any changes or amendments to these rules and regulations must have approval of the club by two thirds vote and the approval of W.T. Dominy, Sr..
