UNDERHILL MEMORIAL |
| |
Deed of Gift |
 |
The South Bay Scooter Club, and Andrew M. Underhill have agreed to the following details concerning the Scooter Club Memorial Trophy. This trophy was presented to the Scooter Club by Mr. Underhill in February 1947.
The upper wide plate on the plaque is to list the names of those no longer living, who have raced or sailed scooters in the past or have aided in their development. In this way it is hoped that a permanent record will be established, which will give a historical background of scooters.
The small plates below, will be engraved with the names of active Scooter Club members as they pass on.
On the fist suitable Saturday or Sunday of the Scooter season, the Race Committee will hold an open race for all scooter club members off Bellport, of sufficient length and type to assure a real test of sailing skill. The winning boat and the runner-up will be presented with a copper plate replica of the “Memorial Trophy."
The Club and the donor wish to emphasize the importance of this trophy, and feel that the early scheduling of this event each year will act as an impetus to boat owners to get their boats rigged and ready for competition as soon as satisfactory ice conditions are available.
